Watchet Reflections

The view looks across Watchet’s Victorian tidal pool towards the lighthouse on West Pier. On a calm day the surface of the pool creates a giant water mirror, reflecting the clouds and sky. The merging of land, sea and sky.

Iron Sky

Linocut print
Limited Edition of 12 prints. Print size 10 x 15cm
Once upon a time the iron ore would have arrived on the right hand side of the print, where the mineral line ends at the pier, and then sailed past the lighthouse and out of the right hand side of the print as it set off on its onward journey.

Here Comes The Night

10,000+ years of Exmoor ponies on the moor. In a world where so much changes so fast there’s something in a moment that plays out the same way today as it did then. The varied edition moves through the stages of the day fading into night as the pony watches on.

After The Rain

Limited edition of 8 + 1AP prints. Print size approx 27 x 35.5cm
‘After The Rain’ is the sister print to ‘Under The Stars’. This was the first of the two prints, the remaining lino after carving the sky reduction became the clouds in ‘Under The Stars’.
‘After The Rain’ was selected for and exhibited at the Royal Society of British Artists Annual Exhibition 2021.

Saying Goodbye

Multi block linocut print. Limited edition of 7 prints.
There were three blocks used for this print with each block being cut into two or more pieces to form a jigsaw. This enabled me to ink up different colours on the different parts of the jigsaw before each pass through the press.
For me, this print is a reflection of the bittersweet sadness and warm melancholy feeling you get when saying goodbye.

Long Shadows

Afternoon sun, an avenue of trees and the reaching fingers of long shadows.
Inspired by an afternoon walk with the dogs where I was chasing the sun, hunting for light and making use of a phone camera. The resulting print is a combination of the photos I took, the feeling of being there and the sketches I subsequently made before starting to mark out and carve the lino.

A handmade linocut print of a Hawthorn tree under the stars. Created from a view point up on the beautiful Quantock Hills in Somerset.
This print is a multi block linocut. It was created using four separate blocks that I have hand carved and printed one on top of the other to complete the final image.

A three layer multi block print using gradient rolls to enhance the feeling of space and distance.
Inspired by dandelion clocks on a road side verge, this print is a nod to nature and the naturally occurring references to time.

Winter's Bones

Foil lithography print. Limited edition of 9 prints. Actual print size approx 38 x 27.5cm
Invoking the cold winds of winter, the cream coloured skies and the seed heads that are all that are left to remind us of what has gone and what will return.
This print is built up of foil lithography layers, initially to build up the sky before adding the seed heads last of all.
This edition has almost sold out, I hold a framed copy and Heart Of The Tribe gallery in Glastonbury may also still have one available.
Apple Crumble Tree

Caustic etching and linocut print. Limited edition of 13 prints. Actual print size approx 29.2 x 29.2cm
Inspired by lock down, sunshine, beginnings and apple crumble. Standing in the dark shadows of an old apple tree looking up at the blossom was a reminder that life works in cycles. All that we are in will come to pass and even when things are dark there are often the signs of new times ahead. The combination of the organic marks (caustic etching) and clean lines (carving), for me, give the print a natural freedom and structure in equal measure.
