Upon Reflection

A handmade original reduction linocut print by Lisa Benson.

A couple sit on the rocks and watch as the sun sets over the sea. The boating pool on West Street beach in Watchet is in the foreground, Minehead is the headland in the distance. This print is an ode to one of the many stunning sunsets we get on the North West Somerset coastline.

A print from this edition was selected and hung in the Royal Society of British Artists Annual Exhibition 2022.

Upon Reflection is a reduction linocut print. In a reduction linocut print all of the layers of the print are carved from the same piece of lino. Parts of the lino are carved away, a colour is inked onto the lino and then printed. All the prints in the edition have to be printed before carving can begin for the next colour. This process is repeated for every colour until the print is finished. Due to the continual inking of a gradient roll for parts of the print the orange can be either slightly more subdued or slightly more intense in some prints.

The inks used for this print are Caligo Safewash ink.

The paper is acid free printmaking paper.

Although all care is taken to represent the prints as well as possible in the photographs, colours may appear slightly differently on screen to the actual print.

Delivery

The print is wrapped in acid free tissue paper before going into a sturdy 75mm diameter postal tube to be posted out to you.

Handmade Prints

These prints are all handmade and as such there can be slight variations in the prints in an edition, though these are very slight. It means that each print in an edition is unique and is an original in it’s own right.

Varied Editions (VE)

Prints that are marked VE by the edition number are part of a varied edition. This means there are enough difference between the prints that they are sold by their individual number.

Please bear in mind that although I take every care to photograph the prints as faithfully as possible there can also be variations in colour between what you view on a screen and the original print.

Sending Your Prints

Unmounted Prints

Smaller prints are sent in a flat, card backed envelope, a cardboard reinforced package or in a postal tube.

All larger unmounted prints are sent in a ridged cardboard tube to arrived safely with you. Prints sent in a tube will need to be carefully unrolled and flattened out.

Mounted Prints

Smaller mounted prints will be sent in a card backed envelope with additional padding to prevent damage. Larger mounted prints are packed between sheets of thick card and then wrapped in paper to protect them.
