Further Info

A handmade original linocut print of a Hawthorn tree on the Quantock Hills in Somerset.

Limited edition of 8 prints.

‘After The Rain’ was selected for and exhibited at the Royal Society of British Artists Annual Exhibition 2021.

The sky of this print is a reduction linocut where areas of lino are carved away between each inking and printing. The foreground of the print is a multiblock where different carved blocks are printed over each other to achieve the final print.

It’s the end of the day, the rain has stopped and a Kestrel comes out to hunt as the last of the sun reflects on what is left of the rain clouds.

While exploring the Quantock Hills on a winter’s day we found ourselves in a car park up on one of the ridges in the pouring rain. The rough roads were soaking wet and a single small Hawthorn tree stood making it’s shapes against the sky. It was beautiful as it was but I couldn’t help imagining how it would be if the rain stopped and the late afternoon light was allowed to break free.

I wasn’t ready to leave this hilltop when I finished ‘After the rain’ so I created a second variation of this print called ‘Under The Stars’.  It uses the remaining plates from ‘After The Rain’ and a random masking technique and takes us to when night has completely fallen and the stars have come out in the sky. ‘Under The Stars’ is a varied edition of a maximum of 50 prints and is also available on my website.

The inks used for this print are Caligo Safe Wash inks which are water soluble oil based ink with  high lightfast properties.

The paper is Daler-Rowney Canford Ice White paper 150gsm.

Framed prints may be available in the UK, please contact me if you are interested in a framed version of this print.

Handmade Prints

These prints are all handmade and as such there can be slight variations in the prints in an edition, though these are very slight. It means that each print in an edition is unique and is an original in it’s own right.

Varied Editions (VE)

Prints that are marked VE by the edition number are part of a varied edition. This means there are enough difference between the prints that they are sold by their individual number.

Please bear in mind that although I take every care to photograph the prints as faithfully as possible there can also be variations in colour between what you view on a screen and the original print.

Postage is either First Class or First Class signed for in the UK.

Prints are sent tracked and signed for to the rest of the world.
