Further Info
Apple Crumble Tree is a reduction linocut print where the marks have been made using a combination of caustic etching and carving. There are five stages to this print with more lino being removed before each new colour layer was printed.
It’s all about time, lock down, sunshine, beginnings and apple crumble. You can feel the years the tree has been there by the gnarls and twists in the trunk and branches. The canopy above of fresh new leaves and delicate clean blossom are fresh new life bursting out of this old tree. Standing in the dark shadows and looking up into the canopy got me thinking about time, bad and sad times and that life and time works in cycles. All that we are in will come to pass and even when things are dark there are new times ahead.
The inks used for this print are Schmincke Aqua-Linoldruck which are water soluble inks with high lightfast properties.
The paper is Zerkall Fine Art Paper 120gsm printmaking paper. Due to the lighter nature of the paper, the weight of the inks and the pressure of the press the paper isn’t completely flat, see images.
As each print is inked and printed by hand there will be slight variations between each print, each one is in it’s own way an original.
Colours may appear slightly differently on a computer screen to the actual print.
