A handmade linocut print of a Hawthorn tree under the stars. Created from a view point up on the beautiful Quantock Hills in Somerset.
This print is a multi block linocut. It was created using four separate blocks that I have hand carved and printed one on top of the other to complete the final image. The first block is printed using a gradient ink roll where the ink changes colour from light to dark and then sand is sprinkled on to create a random mask effect to create the stars. This makes every print slightly different as there will be a different pattern and number of stars on each. It’s the stars and the blues in this print that make it a varied edition with each print subtly different from the next. ‘Under the stars’ is partly inspired by the blocks that remained from ‘After The Rain’.
I wasn’t ready to leave this hilltop when I finished ‘After The Rain’. The Hawthorn makes such beautiful shapes against the sky so in my mind I stayed there on that hill, with the little Hawthorn tree. Night fell, the stars came out and we were ‘Under The Stars’.
Materials
The inks used for this print are Caligo Safe Wash inks which are water soluble oil based ink with high lightfast properties.
The paper is Daler-Rowney Canford Ice White paper 150gsm.
Each print is inked and printed by hand. I change the tones in the blues through the edition to reflect the time from when the stars first come out through to full darkness of night. Each print is in it’s own way an original work.
Please note, there are difference between each print so please be guided by the number given to each print as you will receive the actual print that you order.
Colours may appear slightly differently on screen to the print.
Delivery
These prints are wrapped in acid free tissue paper and rolled into a strong cardboard tube and then posted. They may need to be flattened back down after they come out of the tube. This can be done by leaving the print in the tissue paper, lying the print on a flat surface and placing a flat weight (such as books) on top of the print.
Handmade Prints
These prints are all handmade and as such there can be slight variations in the prints in an edition, though these are very slight. It means that each print in an edition is unique and is an original in it’s own right.
Varied Editions (VE)
Prints that are marked VE by the edition number are part of a varied edition. This means there are enough difference between the prints that they are sold by their individual number.
Please bear in mind that although I take every care to photograph the prints as faithfully as possible there can also be variations in colour between what you view on a screen and the original print.

Postage is either First Class or First Class signed for in the UK.
Prints are sent tracked and signed for to the rest of the world.

Sending Your Prints
Unmounted Prints
Smaller prints are sent in a flat, card backed envelopes, cardboard reinforced package or in a postal tube.
All larger unmounted prints are sent in a rigid cardboard tube to arrived safely with you. Prints sent in a tube will need to be carefully unrolled and flattened out.
Mounted Prints
Smaller mounted prints will be sent in a card backed envelope with additional padding to prevent damage. Larger mounted prints are packed between sheets of thick card and then wrapped in paper to protect them.
Framed Print
Only available for UK delivery. Wrapped in bubble wrap and boxed. Courier delivery.
