A handmade linocut print of a Hawthorn tree under the stars. Created from a view point up on the beautiful Quantock Hills in Somerset.

This print is a multi block linocut. It was created using separate blocks, that I have hand carved and printed one on top of the other, to complete the final image. The first block is printed using a random mask effect to create the stars. This makes every print slightly different as there will be a different pattern and number of stars on each. It’s the stars in this print that make it a varied edition with each print subtly different from the next. ‘Under the stars’ is partly inspired by the blocks that remained from ‘After The Rain’.
After many months inside the same four walls of lockdown I wasn’t ready to leave this hilltop when I finished ‘After The Rain’. The Hawthorn makes such beautiful shapes against the sky. As a tree I love its tenacity. It has the ability to take everything that is thrown at it from all sides and yet to thrive. So in my mind I stayed there on that hill, with the little Hawthorn tree. Night fell, the stars came out and we were ‘Under The Stars’.

Materials

The inks used for this print are Caligo Safe Wash inks which are water soluble oil based ink with high lightfast properties.

The paper is Daler-Rowney Canford Ice White paper 150gsm.

Each print is inked and printed by hand so slight variations are in each print, each one is in it’s own way an original.

The stars are different in each print due to the masking method used to create them and you will receive the actual print that you order.

Colours may appear slightly differently on screen to the actual print.

Delivery

These prints are wrapped in acid free tissue paper and rolled into a strong cardboard tube and then posted. They may need to be flattened back down after they come out of the tube.

Handmade Prints

These prints are all handmade and as such there can be slight variations in the prints in an edition, though these are very slight. It means that each print in an edition is unique and is an original in it’s own right.

Varied Editions (VE)

Prints that are marked VE by the edition number are part of a varied edition. This means there are enough difference between the prints that they are sold by their individual number.

Please bear in mind that although I take every care to photograph the prints as faithfully as possible there can also be variations in colour between what you view on a screen and the original print.

Delivery

Postage is either First Class or First Class signed for in the UK.

Prints are sent tracked and signed for to the rest of the world.

Sending Your Prints

Unmounted Prints

Smaller prints are sent in a flat, card backed envelopes, cardboard reinforced package or in a postal tube.

All larger unmounted prints are sent in a rigid cardboard tube to arrived safely with you. Prints sent in a tube will need to be carefully unrolled and flattened out.

Mounted Prints

Smaller mounted prints will be sent in a card backed envelope with additional padding to prevent damage. Larger mounted prints are packed between sheets of thick card and then wrapped in paper to protect them.
