Beginnings And Endings
A handmade original collagraph and linocut print by artist Lisa Benson.
The first tree to grow in a woodland is the Silver Birch. Their iconic white trucks reach for the sky, the leaves they shed create nutrients in the soil that pave the way for change. They mark a beginning that takes many yearly cycles to complete. The sun not only has it’s yearly cycle but also its daily cycle, here it is setting upon one of many days. As well as marking the beauty of a sunset on a hilltop where Silver Birches grow, this print is a nod to the cycles that exist for us all.

Beginnings And Endings is a collagraph and linocut print. It’s my biggest print to date. The first layer of this print is printed with a collagraph plate, a plate made of card and varnish. The plate is quite fragile hence there are only nine prints in this edition. The second and third layers are printed from two linocut blocks that I have handcarved, one in a light grey to add texture to the tree and the other in black to give the tree it’s definition and shape. Last of all is the sun which is added using the second lino plate to register its position on the print. I did originally carve the sun into the final plate but I wasn’t happy with it, so adaptation was needed.
As the first collagraph plate can no longer be printed this edition will remain at nine prints although I do reserve the right to create a similar but different print using the linocut plates at a later date, should I wish to.
The inks used for this print are Caligo Safewash Inks
The paper is Somerset Satin 250gsm printmaking paper.
Delivery
The print is wrapped in acid free tissue paper before going into a sturdy postal tube to be posted out to you. Delivery is free in the UK via my website.
Handmade Prints
These prints are all handmade and as such there can be slight variations in the prints in an edition, though these are very slight. It means that each print in an edition is unique and is an original in it’s own right.
Varied Editions (VE)
Prints that are marked VE by the edition number are part of a varied edition. This means there are enough difference between the prints that they are sold by their individual number.
Please bear in mind that although I take every care to photograph the prints as faithfully as possible there can also be variations in colour between what you view on a screen and the original print.
Delivery
Postage is either First Class or First Class signed for in the UK.
Prints are sent tracked and signed for to the rest of the world.

Sending Your Prints
Unmounted Prints
Smaller prints are sent in a flat, card backed envelopes, cardboard reinforced package or in a postal tube.
All larger unmounted prints are sent in a rigid cardboard tube to arrived safely with you. Prints sent in a tube will need to be carefully unrolled and flattened out.
Mounted Prints
Smaller mounted prints will be sent in a card backed envelope with additional padding to prevent damage. Larger mounted prints are packed between sheets of thick card and then wrapped in paper to protect them.
Framed Print
Only available for UK delivery. Wrapped in bubble wrap and boxed. Courier delivery.
