A handmade original collagraph and linocut print by artist Lisa Benson.

The power of nature, ever growing, ever rising up from the earth, reaching towards the sun. Nature itself is unstoppable, it’s ability to regenerate and push forwards is almost (or maybe it is) magical. This scene is taken from an embankment next to a demolished paper mill. The explosion and richness of the greens that push forward every year never fail to fill my soul with joy. It is the uprising of nature that reassures me that the magic is still there.

Uprising is a combination print of two different types of print. A collagraph print is printed on the first pass through the press and then a linocut print is printed on top. The collagraph plate is made by creating various textures on a cardboard plate. The finished plate is then inked intaglio and printed onto damp paper. The lino layer is one piece of lino that has been carved, inked and printed.

Each collagraph layer is inked intuitively, I don’t try to make the prints identical. This means this is a varied edition and the prints are sold by the edition number, you choose the one in the edition you like and purchase that particular version of the print.

The inks used for this print are Akua intaglio inks for the collagraph layer and Caligo Safewash ink for the linocut layer. The paper is Somerset Satin 250gsm printmaking paper.

These prints are posted rolled in a 75mm postal tube and will need to be taken out and allowed to flatten on arrival.

Handmade Prints

These prints are all handmade and as such there can be slight variations in the prints in an edition, though these are very slight. It means that each print in an edition is unique and is an original in it’s own right.

Varied Editions (VE)

Prints that are marked VE by the edition number are part of a varied edition. This means there are enough difference between the prints that they are sold by their individual number.

Please bear in mind that although I take every care to photograph the prints as faithfully as possible there can also be variations in colour between what you view on a screen and the original print.

Sending Your Prints

Unmounted Prints

Smaller prints are sent in a flat, card backed envelope, a cardboard reinforced package or in a postal tube.

All larger unmounted prints are sent in a ridged cardboard tube to arrived safely with you. Prints sent in a tube will need to be carefully unrolled and flattened out.

Mounted Prints

Smaller mounted prints will be sent in a card backed envelope with additional padding to prevent damage. Larger mounted prints are packed between sheets of thick card and then wrapped in paper to protect them.
